Pale Green and Purple Fluorite from Landsverk<\/h3>\n

This attractive mineral specimen comes from Landsverk in the Evje-Iveland district of southern Norway. The specimen displays numerous cubic fluorite crystals in different colors. Particularly striking is the combination of pale green to nearly colorless crystals with purple fluorite areas. <\/p>\n

The lighter fluorite cubes cover large parts of the front and create a clear contrast with the more intensely purple background. Some crystals are translucent and reveal a delicate greenish tone under suitable lighting. <\/p>\n

Cubic Crystals with an Attractive Color Contrast<\/h3>\n

The fluorite crystals mostly measure a few millimeters. Some individual cubes are slightly larger and stand out more clearly from the dense crystal covering. The predominantly vitreous crystal faces clearly display fluorite\u2019s typical cubic form. <\/p>\n

The close intergrowth of the pale green and purple areas creates a varied, three-dimensional surface. Natural irregularities, minor contact points, and partial coatings are present but have only a limited effect on the specimen\u2019s attractive overall appearance. <\/p>\n

With dimensions of 6.5 \u00d7 5.5 \u00d7 2 cm and a weight of 155.6 g, the specimen has a compact size and can be displayed effectively in a systematic mineral collection or cabinet.<\/p>\n

The Landsverk Locality in Southern Norway<\/h3>\n

Landsverk belongs to the mineral-rich Evje-Iveland pegmatite district in the present-day county of Agder. The Landsverk 1 Quarry, also known as the Jokeli Quarry, was developed in the late nineteenth century and is one of the older quarries in the district. Quartz was among the minerals originally extracted there, and feldspar later also became economically important. <\/p>\n

In addition to the original pegmatite minerals, younger hydrothermal mineralization occurs at Landsverk in fractures and cavities. Fluorite is documented from the locality in cubic crystals and is one of the minerals of particular interest to collectors. <\/p>\n
