An Exceptional Andradite from a Historic Norwegian Locality

This specimen comes from the Skjerpemyr Mine near Grua in Norway, a classic mineral locality that is now protected as a natural monument. The specimen displays numerous well-formed olive-green andradite crystals on matrix and originates from a historic find.

Andradite belongs to the garnet group and commonly forms characteristic crystals in skarn deposits. The olive-green colour of this specimen, together with its provenance from a locality that is no longer accessible for collecting, makes it a particularly interesting collector’s piece. The Skjerpemyr Mine is regarded as one of the most important mineral localities in the Grua district and has been protected since 1984; collecting there is no longer permitted.
