Fluorite from the Clara Mine near Oberwolfach, Germany

This fluorite specimen comes from the Clara Mine near Oberwolfach in the Black Forest, Germany. Numerous colorless to slightly grayish fluorite crystals cover several cavities and surfaces of the pale rock matrix.

The fluorite forms predominantly cubic crystals that are densely intergrown into broad crystal coatings and small groups. Most of the crystals are colorless to whitish and translucent. On one side of the specimen, the fluorite appears slightly grayish.

With a length of 15 cm, the piece belongs to the large cabinet specimen size category.

Colorless Fluorite Crystals from the Clara Mine

The Clara Mine near Oberwolfach is one of Germany’s best-known mineral localities. The deposit consists of several mineralized vein structures, including fluorite-, barite-, and quartz-bearing zones. Fluorite is one of the characteristic minerals found at the mine.

On this specimen, the fluorite crystals occur within larger depressions in the matrix, where they form densely arranged cubic aggregates. In addition to the main crystal-covered area, another group of colorless to slightly grayish crystals is developed on the opposite side.

The combination of typical cubic crystal form, pale matrix, and documented provenance makes this specimen a characteristic fluorite example from the Clara Mine.
