The Coscuez Mine belongs to the famous emerald region of Muzo in the Department of Boyacá. It lies within Colombia’s western emerald belt, one of the world’s most important emerald-producing regions.

Colombian emeralds from this area formed in hydrothermally altered black shales and carbonate-rich rocks. Their intense colour is mainly caused by trace elements such as chromium and vanadium. In addition to transparency and colour, the jardin is also an important characteristic of natural emeralds, as it preserves visible evidence of the crystal’s growth history.
