Emerald from Galería Los Topos, Chivor district – Crystal Group on Matrix

This Emerald specimen from Galería Los Topos in the Chivor District, Boyacá, Colombia features several vivid green Emerald crystals closely intergrown on a light-colored mineralized zone over dark host rock. The green crystal group stands out clearly against the contrasting matrix and forms the visual focus of this compact specimen.

With dimensions of 3.2 × 2.2 × 1.0 cm, this is a Miniature specimen. The total weight including the 25 × 25 × 12 mm acrylic stand is 20.0 g.

Vivid green Emerald crystals in a compact group

The Emeralds show an intense green to slightly bluish-green coloration. Several crystals are prismatic and closely intergrown, forming a compact crystal group while individual crystal faces and edges remain recognizable from different viewing angles.

The front view shows the parallel to slightly offset arrangement of the individual crystals particularly well. Their surfaces display distinct longitudinal growth structures and noticeable luster. Some marginal areas appear translucent, while more strongly intergrown sections are less light-transmitting.

The light-colored mineralized zone creates a strong contrast with both the green Emerald and the dark host rock, giving the crystal group a surprisingly prominent appearance despite the small overall dimensions.

Emerald from Galería Los Topos in the Chivor District

Galería Los Topos is located in the Chivor District of Boyacá and belongs to Colombia’s eastern emerald belt. The region is known for Emerald mineralization within light-colored carbonate-rich zones hosted by dark sedimentary rocks.

This specimen illustrates that geological contrast particularly well: the green Emerald crystals occur directly along a light-colored mineralized zone that is sharply set against the dark host rock.
