This Emerald specimen from Galería Los Topos in the Chivor District, Colombia features several vivid green Emerald crystals and crystal areas on a light-colored mineralized zone over dark host rock. A larger green crystal area is especially prominent and stands out clearly against the light matrix, together with several smaller Emeralds distributed across the front of the specimen.
With dimensions of 4.0 × 3.5 × 2.0 cm and a weight of 37.9 g, this is a Miniature specimen. The combination of green Emerald crystals, light-colored accompanying minerals and dark matrix creates a strong color contrast.
Several green Emerald crystals on light-colored mineralization
The Emeralds show a vivid green coloration and are distributed across the mineralized surface. In addition to the more dominant crystal area, several smaller green crystals and crystal sections are visible between the light-colored accompanying minerals.
The crystal forms are partly recognizable as prismatic, while some areas are more strongly intergrown with the matrix. The different sizes and positions of the Emeralds give the specimen a three-dimensional appearance and make it interesting from several viewing angles.
The light-colored mineralization consists of several white to cream-colored crystal and matrix areas that clearly separate the green Emerald from the dark host rock.
Emerald from Galería Los Topos in the Chivor District
Galería Los Topos belongs to the Chivor District in Boyacá and therefore to Colombia’s eastern emerald belt. The region is known for Emerald mineralization in light-colored carbonate-rich zones within dark sedimentary rocks.
This specimen illustrates that geological contrast particularly well: green Emeralds sit directly on a light-colored mineralized zone embedded in the dark host rock.
