This rock crystal cluster comes from the Chivor emerald district in the Department of Boyacá, Colombia. Several colorless quartz crystals form a compact group mounted on an acrylic base.
The crystals display a distinct vitreous luster and stand out clearly against the darker matrix. Measuring approximately 6.0 × 4.5 × 3.5 cm, this is a small cabinet specimen. The stated weight of approximately 40 g includes the acrylic base.
Rock Crystal from the Chivor Emerald District
Chivor is primarily known for its emerald deposits. Quartz occurs there as an associated mineral within the hydrothermal mineralization. Rock crystal clusters from this area add a mineral to a locality or Colombian mineral collection that receives considerably less attention on the market than the region’s emeralds.
The specimen was acquired directly from a miner from the Chivor region and subsequently brought back from Colombia.
