Two pale to light green emerald crystals are clearly visible within a natural rock matrix. The larger crystal reaches a length of nearly 2 cm and forms the visual focus of the specimen. Both crystals show natural fractures and healing structures that developed during or after their formation.
The emeralds are opaque and display pale to light green coloration. Parts of the crystals are firmly embedded in the matrix, while other areas remain exposed. This makes the prismatic crystal form and the externally visible fracture and healing structures easy to recognize.
Emerald from Muzo in Colombia
Muzo is located in the Department of Boyacá and belongs to Colombia’s western emerald belt. Emeralds from the region occur in mineralized veins and breccias within dark sedimentary rocks.
This specimen shows two visible emerald crystals on natural matrix. The main crystal, measuring nearly 2 cm, displays several recognizable fracture surfaces and healed areas. These structures make the specimen particularly interesting for collectors who appreciate not only color and crystal form, but also the formation and later alteration history of a mineral.
The specimen was acquired directly from a local miner during a personal stay in Muzo. With dimensions of 5.3 Ă— 4.0 Ă— 2.5 cm, this is a small cabinet specimen. The total weight is 60 g. Its particular appeal lies in the large main crystal, the second visible emerald crystal, the natural healing structures, and its direct provenance from Muzo.
