Clear Rock Crystal from the Peña Blanca Mine, Colombia

This rock crystal comes from the Peña Blanca Mine near San Pablo de Borbur in the department of Boyacá, Colombia. The locality is particularly known for clear, freely developed quartz crystals. The present specimen combines high transparency with a distinctive, naturally developed crystal form. Peña Blanca is a documented quartz locality.

The colorless crystal displays broad, lustrous prism faces with clearly visible horizontal striations. Well-developed rhombohedral faces form a distinct termination. Natural growth structures, fine inclusions, and minor internal tension fractures are visible within the crystal, producing reflections and occasional subtle spectral colors depending on the viewing angle.

Toward the base, the transparent crystal transitions into an irregularly developed natural attachment area. Isolated yellowish discolorations are present in this section. The different views show the three-dimensional crystal form and high transparency particularly well.

Measuring 7.1 × 4.0 × 3.0 cm and weighing 107.9 g, the piece belongs to the cabinet specimen size category. The crystal tip has a minimal, visually unobtrusive chip. It is visible in the photographs but only slightly affects the harmonious overall appearance of the crystal.

The clear crystal body, strongly developed form, and provenance from a well-known Colombian quartz locality make this an attractive collector’s specimen.
