Epidote from Grönsjöberget, Borlänge, Dalarna, Sweden

This epidote specimen comes from the Grönsjöberget locality near Borlänge in the Swedish province of Dalarna. Dark green epidote crystals and crystalline aggregates cover parts of the lighter-colored matrix. Under direct lighting, the crystal faces display a distinct vitreous luster.

The crystals are predominantly small and form densely arranged groups. Their dark green color contrasts with the matrix. With a length of 6.5 cm, the piece belongs to the small cabinet specimen size category.

Epidote from the Historic Grönsjöberget Locality

Grönsjöberget is a mineral locality in the Borlänge area and forms part of the traditional mining region of central Sweden. Epidote is documented from this locality and occurs there together with other minerals associated with metamorphic and contact-metamorphic rocks.

According to the previous owner, this specimen was collected from historic mine dumps in the wooded surroundings of the locality. The combination of dark green color, crystal luster, and a historic Swedish locality makes it a characteristic reference specimen from Dalarna.
