Colorless to clear quartz crystals form a tightly intergrown aggregate with a clearly visible white faden line. Some crystals show a distorted, partly tabular-looking habit that gives the specimen an unusual form.
The internal thread is visible through parts of the quartz aggregate and is the defining feature of this distinctive growth form. The differently oriented crystals create a compact, three-dimensional structure.
Faden Quartz from the Zhob District
The Zhob District is located in the Pakistani province of Balochistan. Clear quartz crystals and faden quartz with different growth forms are known from the region.
Faden quartz forms when a crystal is repeatedly pulled apart during growth and the resulting gap is filled with new quartz material. This process creates a pale, thread-like line inside the crystal.
With dimensions of 4.0 × 2.5 × 1.5 cm, this is a miniature specimen. The total weight, including the clear acrylic base, is 20 g. Its particular appeal lies in the visible faden line and the partly distorted crystal habit.
