Pectolite with Calcite from Steinperf, Hesse, Germany

This mineral specimen comes from the Trautvetter Quarry, also known as the Burgberg Quarry, near Steinperf in Hesse, Germany. White to grayish-white pectolite aggregates occur together with gray calcite on a darker rock matrix.

The pectolite shows a fine-radiating to radial-fibrous habit and forms broad aggregates across several areas of the specimen. The gray calcite complements the mineral association and gives the surface an irregular, three-dimensional structure. With a length of 11.0 cm, the piece belongs to the large cabinet specimen size category.

Pectolite and Calcite from the Steinperf Locality

The Trautvetter Quarry near Steinperf is a well-known German locality for pectolite, calcite, natrolite, and various other cavity minerals. These minerals occur in fractures and cavities within the exposed mafic rock. Pectolite and calcite have both been documented from this locality.

Radial to fibrous aggregates with white or grayish-white coloration are characteristic of pectolite. On this specimen, the calcite forms gray crystalline areas between and adjacent to the pectolite aggregates.

The combination of both minerals and the documented provenance makes this specimen a characteristic locality example from Steinperf.
