This Rock Crystal from Igea in La Rioja, Spain is a self-collected specimen and shows a freely developed, well-terminated Quartz crystal with colorless to slightly milky areas. The prismatic crystal form and terminal faces are clearly recognizable, while numerous internal structures give the crystal a lively appearance.
The crystal measures 2.8 × 2.0 × 1.5 cm and weighs 11.9 g. It has been mounted on a black acrylic stand at its natural point of attachment within the fissure. This preserves the original orientation of the crystal while allowing the specimen to be displayed freestanding.
Freely developed Rock Crystal with clear termination
The Rock Crystal shows a clearly developed prismatic habit with a well-defined termination. Several smooth crystal faces reflect the light strongly, while numerous fine internal structures, fractures, and growth features are visible within the crystal.
Depending on the viewing angle, larger areas appear transparent to translucent. The internal structures create numerous light reflections and make the crystal interesting from different perspectives.
The three photographs show the crystal from different directions. This makes both the development of the termination and the prismatic side faces, as well as the internal structure, easy to observe.
Self-collected specimen from Igea in La Rioja
Igea in La Rioja is known for Quartz and Calcite mineralization in fissures and cavities. The present Rock Crystal was collected directly at this locality.
The natural point of attachment is located at the base of the crystal. The specimen was mounted on the black stand precisely at this area. It is therefore not a cut or artificially shaped crystal, but a naturally grown single crystal.
With its clearly recognizable crystal form, good termination, and documented provenance, the specimen is particularly suitable as a small representative example of the Quartz mineralization from Igea.
