Azurite from Touissit, Morocco – Intense Dark Blue Crystals on Matrix

This Azurite specimen from Touissit in Morocco shows numerous intensely dark blue Azurite crystals on a brown to greenish matrix. Particularly striking are the very strong vitreous luster and the rich, deep blue color of the crystals.

Measuring 5.4 × 3.5 × 2.0 cm and weighing 36 g, this is a small cabinet specimen. The crystallization covers large parts of the surface and consists of numerous tabular to bladed crystals and crystal groups.

Intense dark blue Azurite with strong luster

The Azurite shows a very intense dark blue coloration. The crystal faces display a pronounced, very strong vitreous luster that becomes particularly noticeable depending on the angle of the light.

The crystals are predominantly opaque. In thinner crystal areas, some parts are weakly translucent.

The Azurite crystals are predominantly tabular to bladed and are partly densely intergrown. Brown and greenish matrix areas are visible between the dark blue crystals, creating a distinct color contrast.

Azurite from Touissit

Touissit in eastern Morocco is one of the classic localities for Azurite and other copper and lead minerals. The deposit is internationally known for intensely colored Azurite specimens, including pieces with lustrous, deep blue crystals.

This specimen is particularly characterized by the combination of intense dark blue color, very strong luster and dense crystallization. Despite its compact size of 5.4 cm, the piece displays numerous clearly visible crystal faces and different crystal groups
