This pectolite specimen comes from the Trautvetter Quarry, also known as the Burgberg Quarry, near Steinperf in Hesse, Germany. White pectolite aggregates cover several areas of the darker rock matrix.
The pectolite shows a fine-radiating to fibrous habit. The densely arranged crystal fibers form small tufts and broad aggregates that contrast clearly with the matrix. With a length of 8.5 cm, the piece belongs to the cabinet specimen size category.
Pectolite from the Steinperf Locality
The Trautvetter Quarry near Steinperf is a well-known German locality for pectolite and various other cavity minerals. Pectolite and natrolite have been documented from the locality.
The minerals formed in fractures and cavities within the exposed mafic rock. Radial, fibrous, or acicular aggregates with white to cream-colored crystal development are characteristic of pectolite.
The combination of fine-radiating pectolite, dark matrix, and documented provenance from Hesse makes this piece a characteristic locality specimen from Steinperf.
