This Emerald specimen from Los Topos in the Chivor District of Colombia features several vivid green Emerald crystals and crystal aggregates on a light-colored mineralized zone within the dark host rock. The Emeralds are distributed across different areas of the specimen and form a striking color contrast with the light vein filling and the dark matrix.
Particularly noticeable is an approximately 6 mm Emerald crystal that projects clearly from the matrix. Several additional green crystals and intergrown crystal groups occur nearby. As a result, the specimen does not appear as a single Emerald on matrix, but rather shows a broader, continuous zone of Emerald mineralization.
Vivid green Emeralds on a light-colored vein filling
The Emeralds display vivid green colors and occur both as individual crystals and in smaller groups. The largest clearly visible crystal shows recognizable prismatic faces and stands out particularly well against the light-colored surroundings.
In the rear part of this crystal, the growth continues into several smaller, intergrown Emerald crystals. This multi-part continuation of crystal growth gives the specimen additional mineralogical and visual structure.
Further Emeralds are distributed across the mineralized zone alongside the main crystal. Some areas consist of closely intergrown green crystals, while others show individual, clearly separated crystal sections.
Emerald specimen from Los Topos in the Chivor District
Los Topos belongs to the Chivor District in Colombia’s Eastern Emerald Belt. The combination of dark host rock, light-colored vein mineralization and intensely green Emeralds is characteristic of the appearance of many specimens from this area. With dimensions of 7.0 × 6.2 × 2.0 cm and a weight of 94 g, this is a substantial Small cabinet specimen. The comparatively large matrix, several visible Emerald crystals and the mineralization distributed across a broader area give the specimen strong collector appeal both in the overall view and in close-up.
