This compact miniature specimen features a prominent silvery-gray molybdenite aggregate on a light-colored feldspar matrix. Its strong metallic luster contrasts clearly with the cream-colored to pale pink feldspar, making the molybdenite immediately recognizable.

The largest molybdenite section is located near the top of the specimen. It displays the characteristic platy to flaky structure of the mineral and forms a broad, highly reflective surface. Smaller dark to metallic inclusions are also visible in other parts of the matrix.

Platy Molybdenite Aggregates on Feldspar

Molybdenite is a molybdenum sulfide that commonly forms thin, flexible plates or flaky aggregates. The main appeal of this specimen lies not in a completely developed single crystal, but in the clearly visible and relatively continuous molybdenite mineralization.

The light-colored, coarse-grained feldspar matrix provides an effective contrast with the lead-gray metallic luster. Because the main aggregate is prominently exposed, the typical appearance of molybdenite can be observed particularly well.

Norwegian Pegmatite Locality

Saga II Quarry is part of the Sagåsen area near Porsgrunn in Telemark, Norway. The pegmatites of this region are known for a varied assemblage of uncommon and collectible minerals.

Measuring 4.3 × 2.7 × 2.5 cm and weighing 23 g, the specimen belongs to the miniature size category. It is well suited to collections focused on Norwegian minerals, sulfides, pegmatite minerals, and locality specimens.
