This kyanite specimen comes from Selbu in the Norwegian county of Trøndelag. Numerous deep-blue kyanite crystals sit on a pale rock matrix, creating a distinct color contrast.
The elongated crystals are locally arranged in fan-shaped to radiating groups. This creates a three-dimensional crystal cluster that is particularly well visible on the front of the specimen. The blue color ranges from medium blue to deep denim blue.

Kyanite from the Selbu Region
Selbu is known for a variety of metamorphic mineral occurrences. Kyanite occurs there in metamorphic rocks and may form elongated crystals as well as radiating aggregates. At several localities in the Selbu area, kyanite crystals have been documented in quartz-rich and mica-bearing metamorphic rocks.
