Mexico is one of the most mineralogically diverse countries in North America. Its long mining history, numerous hydrothermal ore systems, volcanic rocks, carbonate rocks and pegmatites have produced a wide variety of mineral occurrences. Many Mexican localities have been classic names in the international mineral trade and among collectors for decades.

Among the best-known regions are Chihuahua, Durango, Zacatecas and other mining districts in the north and centre of the country. These areas contain ore minerals, gangue minerals and secondary mineralisation. Well-developed crystals from hydrothermal deposits, oxidation zones and carbonate host rocks are particularly characteristic.

A classic locality is Naica in Chihuahua, which became famous above all for its exceptionally large gypsum crystals. Santa Eulalia is also one of Mexico’s important mining districts and is known for a wide variety of minerals from hydrothermal lead-zinc systems.

Numerous interesting ore minerals and mineral associations are also known from Zacatecas. Localities such as the Noche Buena Mine have produced sulphide minerals including arsenopyrite, pyrite and sphalerite in typical hydrothermal associations.

Other regions of Mexico are likewise known for characteristic collector minerals. These include apatite from Cerro de Mercado, grossular from the Sierra de las Cruces, wulfenite from Los Lamentos and fire opal from volcanically influenced deposits. These localities illustrate the remarkable geological and mineralogical diversity of the country.

The Mineralien Weltweit range includes collector specimens from various Mexican localities, including apatite, aragonite, arsenopyrite, calcite, fire opal, gypsum, grossular and wulfenite. Each specimen is documented with precise locality information, dimensions, weight and original photographs.
