Andradite is a calcium-iron silicate belonging to the garnet group and is characterized by a wide variety of colors and crystal habits. Its crystals range from yellowish and green to brown and nearly black, often displaying a pronounced vitreous luster. Well-known varieties include green demantoid, yellowish topazolite, and black, generally titanium-bearing melanite. Andradite forms in various geological environments, including the contact metamorphism of carbonate rocks, and is a characteristic mineral of many skarn deposits.

This category features andradite mineral specimens from several classic localities, particularly in Norway and Russia. A major focus is on andradite from Norway’s Grua mining district, including the historic Skjerpemyr locality. Specimens from this area display olive-green, brown, and dark-colored crystals occurring individually, in groups, or as dense crystal coatings on skarn matrix. Some are associated with other minerals, such as epidote.

Additional andradite specimens come from the Bjønndalen Quarry in Norway and Dalnegorsk in the Russian Far East. Specimens from Dalnegorsk feature reddish-brown to nearly black garnet crystals with well-defined crystal faces. These localities illustrate the diversity of andradite in terms of color, crystal habit, matrix, and mineral associations.

Each andradite specimen is documented with locality information, dimensions, weight, and original photographs. The selection ranges from compact crystal groups to larger matrix specimens, offering opportunities to compare garnet crystallization and geological settings from different mineral localities.
