Sulfides form an important group within mineral systematics. They are characterized by compounds of metals or semimetals with sulfur; the same systematic class also includes related compounds and the more complex sulfosalts.

Many sulfide minerals show a pronounced metallic luster and occur in hydrothermal ore veins, skarn deposits, sediment-hosted ore deposits or magmatic mineral deposits. Numerous representatives have been, or still are, important ore minerals for the extraction of lead, zinc, copper, molybdenum and other metals.

Among the best-known sulfides are pyrite, galena, chalcopyrite, sphalerite and marcasite. In addition, this mineral class comprises numerous less common species with characteristic crystal habits, intergrowths and mineral associations.

The Mineralien Weltweit range includes sulfide minerals from various classic mining districts and localities. These include, among others, pyrite, chalcopyrite, galena, marcasite, sphalerite, wurtzite, arsenopyrite, molybdenite and stibnite. Each collector specimen is documented with precise locality information, dimensions, weight and original photographs.
