Several colorless to clear quartz crystals form a connected, three-dimensional crystal group on natural matrix. The crystal tips show a yellow to orange coloration caused by fine halloysite inclusions, a characteristic feature of the quartz known as mango quartz.
The group consists of four prominent main crystals that are partly intergrown. The longest crystal reaches approximately 4 cm. The contrast between the clear crystal sections, the colored tips, and the matrix defines the visual appearance of the specimen.
Mango Quartz from Cabiche, Colombia
Cabiche is located near Quípama in the Boyacá Department of Colombia. Quartz crystals with yellow to orange areas are known from the region and are sold in the mineral trade as mango quartz.
The coloration is caused by fine halloysite inclusions that are often concentrated in the outer growth zones and crystal tips. As a result, parts of the crystals remain colorless to transparent, while the tips appear yellowish to orange.
With dimensions of 6.0 × 5.0 × 5.0 cm, this is a compact small cabinet specimen. The total weight, including the black acrylic base, is 121 g. Its particular appeal lies in the group of four main crystals, the colored crystal tips, and the natural matrix.
